Go there now. Really.
I just want to say that Matt over at onetakemedia.net rocks. I have a client that uses ProStores and I’ve been reviewing the data collected by analytics and adwords. Needless to say, we need to bolster the Google analytics and adwords functionality on the site. I did a lot of research and found One Take Media. Matt was the only one I could find on the web that not only had solutions but solutions that made sense to me. Now here’s the best part: I called him up out of the blue and he spent ten minutes on the phone helping me out. He has some great modules that you absolutely have to look at if you are on a ProStores platform. Thanks again Matt.
Christopher Penn’s post on the obligation of the content creator is great. How many minutes do you spend a day reading blog posts, forums, etc. Is it worth your valuable time to read my posts? We as content creators have an obligation to write good stuff. It’s time to step up the game and give the people something of value.
I have a huge pet peeve; people riding down the road won a motorcycle with no helmet. Hello, are you stupid? Do you know how many people get killed each year in motorcycle accidents? It’s just not that hard to put on your helmet. In many states, it’s the law. If you are in to racing it’s also imperative that you wear protective gear including gloves, boots, suits, and helmets. Need some gear or a Helmet? Sportbike Track Gear sells just about everything you need for riding. The have a special on Bell Vortex Helmets and they have a ton of video reviews that are easy to follow and understand.
A few facts: In 2006 the number of deaths on motorcycles in 2006 was about 35 times the number in cars. In 2007, there were more deaths in motorcycle accidents than in any year since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began collecting fatal crash data. Helmets decrease death related head injuries and the severity of head injuries. According to the NHTSA, helmets alone can reduce the likelihood of a fatal crash by 37%.
Have you ever started looking for a business in town? If you are like me you’ll go on the internet and do a search and hope for the best. I’ve found a directory in Huntsville that lists five top businesses for each category. Home Resource Huntsville has several well laid out categories that are easy to sort through. From Pet Sitting to Home Repair, you’ll find the right company in this resource.
I’ve owned a few directories in my time and the thing about this one is that it is well promoted. They use billboards along the busiest roads, postcard mailings, and a group of dedicated salespeople to constantly promote the directory and the advertised businesses.
Directory owners could learn a valuable lesson by looking at the Home Resource directory. Every day I see so many crappy directories that have nothing to do with helping people; they are mostly link farms. Home Resource Huntsville is a model directory for businesses that want people finding them and coming to their place of business. With all the non-internet marketing that goes into this site, people will find it and then find the advertised businesses.
Brad Geddes wrote a nice article on How Many Google Privcay Policies Are You Violating?
It’s important to remember that if you use Google AdWords, Analytic, or AdSense, you’ve agreed to follow Google’s privacy policies. If you are in violation of those policies you could be at risk of losing access to the Google program or even being sued. Neither being something I want to have happen to me or my clients.
I’m off to double check that my sites are in compliance.
Many search engine optimizers make a strong recommendation to back engineer your competitor’s web sites and figure out where they are getting their links. Inbound links currently account for a very high percentage of the ranking algorithms. So, the theory is that if your competitor is ranking on page one of Google and you can copy their link profile, you too will rank on page one. Julie Joyce wrote a something about this in Search Engine Land that I happen to agree with. You can see the original article here. My comment on the subject is:
I’ve often thought this was an over hyped method. It is certainly one that should be researched but it’s just one method of many. At best, if you could duplicate every competitor link, you just leveled the inbound link field. That doesn’t mean you’ll be next to them in ranking though. SEO is a chess came that requires the best SEO to think both inside and outside the box. It’s the little things, plus going the extra mile for a client, that make a huge difference.
Being a do-it-yourselfer I’ve thought about building a home. I’ve poured over plans and looked at better ways to make my house sit on the site. In the end, I just don’t think it’s worth it to go at it alone. I too think it’s good to find a contractor. Light, but accurate, assessment of hiring a contractor.
Thought this was a great Donald Trump quote I got from business quotes.
Experience taught me a few things. One is to listen to your gut, no matter how good something sounds on paper. The second is that you’re generally better off sticking with what you know. And the third is that sometimes your best investments are the ones you don’t make.

I own a Kindle and love it. It’s easy to use, easy to download books, and easy on the eyes. My daughter and wife love it too and have wanted one for months. I kept telling them to just wait because the price was coming down. + Read More
