Procrastination
I think blogging can be my new procrastination tool. When I don’t feel like working on something that makes money, I can just write. This is motivation, at least to blog. Procrastination is the intentional and habitual postponement of an important task that should be done now. What are some of the ways you procrastinate? How can I stop procrastinating? I’ll share a few tips I’ve seen over the years.
- Start the morning by listing the tasks that need completing today.
- Prioritize the list.
- Make it a challenge to finish the list. Some of us love competitive games, even ones we play by ourselves.
- Create new habits. These take time and commitment to develop. It takes about 30 days of consistently doing something to turn it into a habit; including finishing your daily list.
- Make your work environment more conducive to completing tasks.
- Reward yourself when you complete a task with a short break or some other treat.
So, I need to put these into action today. So, I’ll go outside for 2 min and then come back and get to it. The 2 min break is my reward for writing this blog entry and not just surfing the net for more whatever timewaster I can find. I’ll clean my desk and then work on completing my list. Maybe I’ll shorten it from 38 hours worth of tasks to 6 hours first.
Unpleasant tasks are rarely as bad as they appear to be. Just do it. Get it done. Celebrate. Start another day with another, new list.
